Dr. Michiel van Gent
Michiel van Gent received his doctorate degree at Utrecht University (the Netherlands) in 2015. During his PhD studies in the laboratory of Dr. Emmanuel Wiertz and Dr. Maaike Ressing, he identified several novel immune evasion strategies that human gamma-herpesviruses have devised to evade innate immune responses, specifically those initiated by the Toll-like receptors. He then joined the laboratory of Dr. Jos van Strijp at the University Medical Center in Utrecht, where he focused on establishing novel in vivo infection models in zebrafish. In April 2016, Michiel joined the Gack laboratory to investigate the innate immune responses that control gamma-herpesvirus infections and herpesvirus-associated tumorigenesis.
